Steroids & the Brain / Men's Health

I wrote about the psychiatric effects of anabolic-androgenic steroids for the October 2021 issue of Men’s Health. These include: euphoria, irritability, aggression, hyperactivity, impaired judgement, violence, depression, suicidal ideation, paranoia and delusions of grandeur. Steroids can trigger an impulsive blow-up, as in the popular perception of “roid rage”, but they can also kindle an obsessive slow-burn. There have been many high-profile cases in which the ability of steroids to actuate premeditated violence has been underappreciated.
