I interviewed footballer Wilfried Zaha for the cover of the June/July 2019 issue of The Jackal. The quotes that he gave me about receiving racist abuse on social media - “Nearly every game I’m called a monkey or a nigger or a whatever” - were reported on the back pages of The Evening Standard, The Sun, The Daily Mirror and The Daily Express, and inside the sports sections of The Times and The Telegraph. Unfortunately, they all misreported that the abuse took place in the grounds. I wrote an online follow-up to clarify, and ask why racist abuse on social media is any less serious or newsworthy than IRL.
